A pixel art editor in your browser — introducing Nova Sprite
We've released a new web tool: Nova Sprite, a pixel art editor that runs in your browser. There's nothing to install — open it, pick a canvas size, and start drawing.

What it does
- Drawing tools: pen, eraser, fill, line, rectangle, ellipse, and eyedropper, with undo/redo
- Layers: reorder, toggle visibility, and adjust opacity — the layer operations pixel art needs
- Palettes: a preset palette plus custom colors of your own
- Frame animation: add and duplicate frames, set the FPS, and preview the animation in place
- Tilemaps: tilemap layers can auto-tile what you draw or stamp tiles onto a grid — handy for game maps
- Export: PNG (with scale factor), sprite sheets, GIF, tileset PNG, and tilemap JSON
- Saving: save your work as a project file (.novasprite) to resume later
How to use it
- Open the site and pick a canvas size (16×16 to 128×128, or any custom size)
- Choose the pen from the toolbar, pick a color from the palette, and draw
- For animation, add frames in the timeline at the bottom
- Export as PNG, GIF, and more from the menu, or save the project
No sign-up, no installation.
How your data is handled
Everything you draw is processed in your browser — nothing is uploaded to a server. It's free.
When it comes in handy
- Whipping up sprites or tilesets for a game
- Making pixel art icons or animated GIFs without heavyweight software
- Trying out pixel art without installing anything
Novare Orbis offers other free, browser-based tools as well — see the full list.
