Nova Reader: a Chrome extension that shows you the article and nothing else
Our fourth Chrome extension, Nova Reader, is now available. It takes the article you are reading, extracts the main text, and shows it in a clean reading tab — no ads, no sidebars, no sticky banners.
What it does
- A clean reading view: keeps the article text and its images, and removes everything around them
- Typography you control: adjust text size, line height and column width, and switch between a sans and a serif face
- Four themes: auto (follows your system), light, dark and sepia — your settings are remembered
- Copy as Markdown: the title and the source URL are already in place, so it drops straight into your notes or drafts
- Copy as text, print or save as PDF: printing hides the toolbar and prints the article on plain white
- Estimated reading time: based on the length of the article
How to use it
- Add the extension from the Chrome Web Store
- Open the article you want to read and click the icon in the toolbar
- Press "Open in reader" to see the article in its own tab
- Adjust the type to your liking, then copy or print it
No account, no sign-up, free. Browser pages (chrome://) and the Web Store cannot be read — that is a browser restriction. Pages with no article text (search results, dashboards) will tell you so instead of showing an empty page.
About your data
Extraction and rendering both happen inside your browser. The content of the page is never sent to a server. There is no data collection and no tracking.
The extension asks for only three permissions — activeTab, scripting and storage — and no host permissions. It touches the tab you invoke it on, and only while you use it. The captured page is kept in session memory and is gone when you close the browser.
