Remove Backgrounds and Upscale Images with AI — New AI Tools in Nova Image Converter
Nova Image Converter now includes two AI-powered tools: an AI Background Remover and an AI Image Upscaler.
Most AI tools ask you to upload your files to someone's server. These two don't. The AI model itself is downloaded to your browser and runs on your own machine — your images never leave it.
What's new
- AI Background Remover: The AI detects the subject in your image, removes the background, and gives you a transparent PNG. You can also replace the background with any solid color instead
- AI Image Upscaler: Enlarges blurry or small images with AI. Pick a 2x, 3x, or 4x preset, or type an exact width and height (up to 4x the original). Progress and an estimated time remaining are shown while it runs
The same background removal also powers the ID Photo tool, so you can swap the background of a passport or resume photo for white or blue and lay it out on a print sheet.
How to use it
- Pick "AI Background Remover" or "AI Image Upscaler" from the list on the home page
- Load an image (for the upscaler, choose a scale or size and press Upscale)
- Check the result and download it
No sign-up, no installation.
About your data
Everything runs in your browser, and your images are never uploaded to a server — including the AI inference itself. Every tool is free.
A couple of trade-offs worth knowing:
- The first run downloads the AI model, which is a little over ten megabytes (later runs use your browser cache)
- Upscaling takes a while: about 30 seconds for a 500×500 image, and the input limit is 1 megapixel (roughly 1000×1000)
When it comes in handy
- Cutting the background out of product shots or icons to get a transparent PNG
- Preparing a resume photo with the background swapped for plain white
- Blowing up an old, small image until it's usable in a document or thumbnail
